This has a dual significance. On the personal level, it refers to the marriage of the Catholic Monarchs in 1469, which was conducted using a forged papal bull, which made the marriage potentially invalid. It was only in late 1471 that Pope Sixtus IV issued a genuine bull that validated the union. Politically, the phrase underscores the belief held by the monarchs that their marriage and dynastic alliance were guided by divine providence. They saw their union as not only legitimate but divinely ordained, marking the beginning of the political unification of Spain through their descendants. Thus, the use of this phrase on the coin symbolises their belief that their union—both marital and dynastic—was divinely ordained and should not be challenged. Gold issues before the 1497 Pragmatic Sanction are extremely rare in Coruña, and this particular coin is considered unique.
