This mint, located on the frontier with the Byzantine province of Spania, began striking coins during the reign of Sisebut, likely in large quantities to cover military expenses in the area. It remained active until the reign of Chindasuinth. Tulga peacefully succeeded his father, Chintila (639) but his youth and weak character made him vulnerable to the ambitions of the kingdom’s powerful nobles, who aspired to the throne. Among them, the elderly and shrewd Chindasuinth managed to secure enough support to depose him (642). This coin is extremely rare.
