ARCHAEOLOGY

ARCHAEOLOGY. EGYPT. New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty. Theban funerary cone belonging to Amenhotep, with hieroglyphic inscription of confused layout (1466-1388 BC). Terracotta. Length 23.5 cm. With an inscribed inventory number. Same stamp illustrated in the reference work by Davies & Macadam (1957), A Corpus of Inscribed Egyptian Funerary Cones (no. D.M. 374), Oxford; and comparable to the example held in the World Museum, Liverpool (inv. no. 1973.1.339). Similar examples to this piece were found in 2009 by the University of Brussels during excavations of tomb C.3 in Western Thebes, where more than one hundred cones of this type were recovered.
