After the success of the auction held at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid during the 2025 International Numismatic Event, this year we are once again auctioning a unique work by the international artist Miguel Tadeo, who is described by Antonio López as: “One of the best painters on the current art scene, with an emotional intensity equal to that of Francis Bacon, whose work represents something truly extraordinary as an expression of the drama of life.” Miguel Tadeo’s works can also be found in permanent museum collections, as well as in private collections across Europe, America and Asia. This painting pays homage to the German painter Hans Memling, one of the most renowned Flemish artists, especially known as a master miniaturist. Undoubtedly, the great challenge of this work lies in its format, as Miguel Tadeo has reduced the original size by half, greatly increasing the difficulty of imitating Memling’s brushwork. In addition, the pendant features the emblematic Mexican 8 escudos gold onza minted in 1715, from the Segarra Collection and auctioned by Jesús Vico. The work depicts the woman from the nuptial triptych commissioned from Hans Memling in 1470 by Tommaso di Folco Portinari, director of the Medici Bank branch in Bruges. Tommaso was a patron of Flemish art in the 15th century and married Maria Portinari, also known as Maria Maddalena Baroncelli; both were Florentine. The original work can be seen at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
