The eldest son of the emperor Decius, Herennius Etruscus was raised to the rank of Caesar shortly after his father's accession to the throne (250), and later, in May 251. to that of Augustus and therefore co-emperor. He died with his father during the campaigns against the Goths in the summer of 251. This coin belongs to the period in which he was Caesar. It bears his portrait and full name, Quintus Herennius Etruscus Messius Decius, together with his title; the reverse adds the traditional Princeps Iuventutis, a title commonly used by presumed heirs to the throne from the time of Augustus onward.
